“If My people, who are called by My Name, will humble themselves and pray and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land” 2 Chronicles 7:14
Today is one of those that when asked, ‘Where were you when you first heard about 9/11 twelve years ago?’ we can recount not only where we were but what we were doing. There have been other milestones that some of you remember when gun shots rang out that killed President John F. Kennedy fifty years ago.
A time of reflection is good for our souls because it reminds us just how God has withheld even worse tragedies from our nation and our own lives. These reminders reveal to each one of us just how frail and utterly helpless we are without a faith in Jesus Christ. I like the passage in 1 Peter that also reminds us that we have even more to be thankful after this life is completed.
“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! According to His great mercy, He has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, kept in heaven for you.”
Altogether, today is a day when we can take a moment and pray for the families of those who lost their loved ones, that they would also have the hope through faith in Jesus Christ, that one day they will again be reunited with their loved ones once again, and never to be separated.
Lord, thank You for your great love for us today. We thank You for Your tender mercies and the abundant grace we have received for what we have not earned. You alone are God, and we praise You.
Lord, we pray for those families that lost Mothers, Fathers, Uncles, Aunts, friends, as they come to a Marker in their lives reflecting on their own deep losses. We pray that you would renew and strengthen each one, and that they would count on You to be their refuge and strength.
We also pray for this great country that seems to have gone astray, and turned their backs on You. Lord, have mercy on us. You said in Your Word that z”If My people would humble themselves and Pray, and Seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive them and heal their land.”
God, we agree with Your Word. We ask that You would bring humility back to this nation and cast aside pride and corruption. We agree and pray God that not one but many would set their hearts to seek You. And we agree Lord that we must turn away from the wickedness and ask You for Wisdom, give us discernment, that we may know the right way to walk and give You the opportunity to once again lead us, that this world would see Your way is the better way. We thank You, and yield ourselves to Your power. Make this land a place where You are always welcome to walk in our midst. In Jesus Name, Amen.
