“Oh, how abundant is Your goodness, which You have stored up for those who fear You and worked for those who take refuge in You, in the sight of the children of mankind!” (Psalm 31:19)

“So far today, God, I’ve done all right. I haven’t gossiped, haven’t lost my temper, haven’t been greedy, grumpy, nasty, selfish, or over-indulgent. I’m really glad about that…. but in a few minutes, God, I’m going to climb out of bed and from then on I’m probably going to need a lot more help. Thank you God, In Jesus Name, Amen.”

I can flip a switch, but I don’t provide the electricity. I can turn on a faucet, but I can’t make the water flow. There will be no light and no water without someone else providing it….. and such is the grace of God, even while we are sleeping 💤 😴 the grace of God is flowing over us, nothing we did, nothing we control, The goodness of God is who He is, nothing that is described as good cannot be separated from His unmerited favor towards us, just because He loves us ❤️ because He is good, He is good because He loves us.

Maybe you’ve met or known who you heard saying, “God is good, all the time, God is good!” This is a cute phrase, but it’s as solid in truth as any deep theological understanding, and as powerful in encouragement as any other phrase, because God is good….all the time, even when you’re sleeping and yes, especially when you climbed out of your bed this morning.

God is good by definition; anywhere you find goodness you will, by definition, have God, and vice versa. You can’t have God without goodness, and you can’t have goodness without God. This can be seen in the teaching of the Scriptures. Everything God made was very good (Genesis 1:31). No one is good except God (Mark 10:18). All things work together for good for those who love God (Romans 8:28). Those who seek God lack no good thing (Psalm 34:10).

The Bible says God’s thoughts about you are “more than the sands of the sea” and that you are the “apple of His eye”. (Psalm 139:18- 17:28)
God is for you. He has your back. He is there, working to do you good.

We are living in times and moments where the word good can be spoken so deceptively, but the Word of God stands consistently true and trustworthy. “Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter! Oh but “taste and see that the LORD is good; blessed is the one who takes refuge in Him.”
(Isaiah 5:20-Psalm 34:8)

God proves His own love for us in that “while we were still sinners Christ died for He did not even spare His own Son, but offered Him up for us all; how will He not also with Him grant us everything?”
(Romans 5:8- 8:32)

In other words, God has already shown His goodness toward you in the biggest way possible. All the other little details in your day, He is there ready to help you, when you remember His goodness and call out to Him.

Maybe you just can’t go there this morning. Maybe your circumstances are so knotted up, you can’t see the goodness of God, maybe your life is so hard, and your options so few that saying “God is good” feels like an echo in a deep cave, sounding hollow inside….

We live in a world where bad things happen to good people and good things happen to bad people. Sometimes, our circumstances argue with us about how good God is. Sometimes God’s good plan for us means going through trials and losses and heartache.

But hear me: God is there for you!
Psalm 31:19-20 says, “How great is Your goodness that You have stored up for those who fear You, and accomplished in the sight of everyone for those who take refuge in You. You hide them in the protection of Your presence; You conceal them in a shelter from the schemes of men, from quarrelsome tongues.”

God has great goodness stored up for you. Take your refuge in Him. Rest there. He is up to more than you know, and has hidden help that only comes when you give it up to Him.

Don’t let the enemy weave a web around your your heart ❤️ and choke off the certainty of God’s promises and His goodness towards you.

Goodness Of God”
(performed by Jenn Johnson)

‘I love You, Lord, for Your mercy never fails me
All my days, I’ve been held in Your hands
From the moment that I wake up, until I lay my head
Oh, I will sing of the goodness of God

Cause all my life You have been faithful
And all my life You have been so, so good
With every breath that I am able
Oh, I will sing of the goodness of God

I love Your voice, You have led me through the fire
And in darkest night You are close like no other
I’ve known You as a Father, I’ve known You as a Friend
And I have lived in the goodness of God.

And all my life You have been faithful,
And all my life You have been so, so good
With every breath that I am able
Oh, I will sing of the goodness of God.

‘Cause Your goodness is running after, it’s running after me…
With my life laid down, I’m surrendered now
I give You everything
‘Cause Your goodness is running after, it’s running after me….
‘Cause Your goodness is running after, it’s running after me
And all my life You have been faithful
And all my life You have been so, so good
With every breath that I am able
Oh, I’m gonna sing of the goodness of God.’
