“ I lay down and slept;
I awoke, for the Lord sustained me.
I will not be afraid of ten thousands of people Who have set themselves against me all around.”
(Psalms 3:5)
This psalm is a personal thanksgiving to God, who answered the prayer of an afflicted soul. …
David, DESERTED by his subjects, RIDICULED by Shimei, PURSUED for his crown and life by his ungracious son, turns to his God, makes his supplications, and confesses his faith.
DESERTED- abandoned
RIDICULED- made to look foolish
PURSUED- continuing efforts swiftly to overtake
David’s faith enabled him to lie down.
Anxiousness would certainly have kept him on his tiptoe, pacing around , reacting to every little sound, watching for an enemy.
But because David trusted Gods Sovereign will for Him, he was able to sleep, to sleep in the midst of trouble, despite surrounded by foes.
David’s sleep was so sure that he says he awaked.
Now, a person doesn’t awaken unless he had been in deep restful sleep.
David reclined his head on the bosom of his God, slept happily beneath the wings of God’s Providence in sweet security, and then…. awoke in safety.
“For the Lord sustained me.”

“This quietude of a man’s heart by faith in God, is a higher sort of work than the natural resolution of manly courage, for it is the gracious operation of God’s Holy Spirit upholding a man above nature, and therefore the Lord must have all the glory of it.”

Ever have a restless night In attempted sleep? Have a restful sleep in “casting your cares” into His hands before you sleep, like David. Meditate on the scriptures.
What a joy to have this confidence David had in trusting His God to work things out because he must have remembered that God “never sleeps or slumbers” He’s always looking out for His children.
Thank You God.
“
When we go to sleep, we know that the Father is caring for us, and when we awaken, He is there to greet us (Psalm 91:1-6). If we awaken in the night, we can fellowship with Him and meditate on His Word (Psalm 119:55, 62, 147-148).
If God never slumbers nor sleeps, why should we stay awake all night, tossing and turning and fretting? “Be still, and know that I am God” (Psalm 46:10).
Are you facing difficulties? Turn to the One who never sleeps. Each second of each day, let Him help put you to sleep.
“He will not allow your foot to be moved; He who keeps you will not slumber.” Psalm 121:3
David Trusted God to be His Rock & Refuge,he so depended upon God’s faithful care for him that he could literally put his head on his “pillow” and sleep restfully. I believe we can still do the same. God is the same, He never changes and what He did for David, He can do for you. Read through the Psalms and pray God’s Word into your sleep time and let God work out all the details,
