“Pray for the peace of Jerusalem: they shall prosper that love thee, Peace be within thy walls, and prosperity within thy palaces, for my brethren and companions sake, I will now say, Peace be within thee” Psalm 122:6
It is important to note that God has chosen Jerusalem as a place where His name should be continually called upon.
How incredible it is to know that Jerusalem is a place on this planet, the smallest place of a nation called Israel that God calls His own. No one can take it away from God, No one can claim it as theirs, because it will always belong to the One God, Jehovah, the Father of Abraham, Isaac, Jacob.
It seems these days that the more you read, and hear in news sources, that Israel doesn’t stand a chance against all the violence and daily threats from their “neighbors” in the Middle East. There are those nations who call themselves, “friends of Israel” and there will always be “enemies of Israel”. This will continue until Jesus Christ returns and sets His foot upon the Holy Land of Israel.
There has and will be a threat to anyone, or any nation that dares stand for truth and righteousness in this life. We know by the Scriptures that the real enemy behind all this is Satan himself, who opposes all that God has done , and will do in the future.
It seems more so every day that the final days are near when all that have and do oppose God will be judged and sentenced to eternal damnation. And so what do make of all the current events happening around us? Do we hide our heads in the sand and pretend they’re not important enough for us to pray? Do we ignore the massive deaths and destruction that the countries who call themselves Islamist’s are causing throughout the world?
I lived in the Bay Area in San Francisco for a while, and as beautiful and wonderful of a place to be around, I remember a saying they had in regards to what other people, other communities were doing or experiencing that was different from what they saw as a peaceful place to live in. They had a term call NIMBY. It meant, ‘you can do anything you want to do in your space as long as you didn’t invade their space.’ NIMBY was defined as ‘Not In My Backyard’
I kinda see this happening in today’s church. They seem to have distanced themselves from World Events, and by so doing, have distanced themselves in a a committed time of prayer to God, who ultimately will have the last word in all things.
And so the challenge today is clear, we need not be “NIMBYS” as Christians, we must get involved in setting aside specific time in our busy days to remember Israel, be reminded that God is in control of whatever happens there and around the world, and that He cares about you, enough to keep you safe from bombs, and threats of violence against you and your families. But, we need to obey this most important command, Pray for Jerusalem.
How do we do this? Go into your ‘prayer closet’ and pray that God’s chosen people be covered and protected against the wiles of the devil. Pray that God would give their leaders Wisdom, and Discernment in all their planning in the defense of the peoples of Israel. Pray that God will, according to Isaiah 43:4 that promises the peoples of Israel that, Since you were precious in My sight, you have been honored, and I have loved you, therefore I will bring men for you and people for your life, fear not I am with you.”
Pray that they will be strengthened with this passage, and that they will trust and turn to God for help. And pray, that as they turn to God and cry out for help from their enemies that they will see Jesus, who came and died for them, that they might be saved and be even more blessed by God.
And so, as WE, pray for THEM, we take comfort ourselves that we not become arrogant and distanced from our Jewish family of friends. The Bible says we are to pray ‘without ceasing”
In closing, I find what helps me to be ‘Praying for Jerusalem’ is to brief myself , after my morning devotionals with God, and read the news. Check out the myriad of opportunities we have to get involved and make a difference in this world, reading of the opportunities of prayer, i begin to see the ‘possibilities of prayer’, because I know for fact that Prayer changes everything! After all, didn’t a night of prayer change the lion’s appetite while Daniel was in the dungeon, full of hungry lions? God does, and always will prevail.
“And ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars: see that ye be not troubled: for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet. for nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places. All these are the beginning of sorrows. Then shall they deliver you up to be afflicted, and shall kill you: and ye shall be hated of all nations for my name’s sake. And then shall many be offended, and shall betray one another, and shall hate one another, And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many. And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold. But he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved. And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come. “ Matthew 24:6-14

“And I will bless them that bless you, and curse him that curses you”
“Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid…. These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.” John 14:27 & 16:23
