“Sing a new song to the LORD! Sing his praises from the ends of the earth! Sing, all you who sail the seas, all you who live in distant coastlands. Join in the chorus, you desert towns; let the villages of Kedar rejoice! Let the people of Sela sing for joy; shout praises from the mountaintops!” Isaiah 42:10-11
Okay, before you fast forward this post, I have a question and a challenge for you today. First off, the question: ‘When was the last time you sang a song of encouragement to someone at work?’ I can see your eyes rolling. Most of us might answer, ‘Hey, that’s not MY gift!’ I sing at church services, but I can’t carry a tune’ Did you know that this passage of Scripture DOESN’T apply just to ‘skilled and gifted’ singers? The fact is that EVERYONE is being encouraged to sing out loud, whether you ‘sail the seas’ or ‘live in distant lands’ we are called to sing praises to the Lord.
I am a blessed man because God has given me a beautiful wife with a beautiful voice, who just happens to sing with Kevin and the worship team. She DEFINITELY has a special anointing of the Spirit to sing in that capacity. But, I happen to know that Patty’s singing gift is not just given out during church services. Patty, at home can be found singing to herself or humming various worship songs. You might ask about now, ‘okay, what does that have to do with me?’ Well, quite a lot, when you consider the question first asked, ‘When was the last time you sang a song of encouragement to someone at work?’ Again, getting back to this passage today led me to two questions.
1. What is keeping me from singing a song of encouragement to someone at our workplace? I’m sure most of the answers would include; ‘I just can’t do that’. ‘That’s just not me!’ Definitely, this is not an easy task. But, IF the Holy Spirit is right, in this passage, why don’t we do it? I have come to understand that when my Bible commands me to do something, it carries a great reward with it. If I choose to not just obey this command, but do it willingly, I believe the Holy Spirit will give me the courage, and the blessing that will be imparted to the one being sang to. That God would be glorified in it, is so exciting!
2. So number two, GO and DO it!
Now, this passage isn’t saying the song needs to be a big hit, sung by a famous Christian artist. It can be a NEW song, GIVEN by the Holy Spirit, especially for you, to be the messenger of God’s delight and love in that person you would be singing to. I would say, this is worth every effort for us to do. To see the Holy Spirit moving through this, lifting not only YOUR spirit, but someone else.
That’s it, simple and pure. Pray and ask God to help you DO what is being asked of you, and than GO and DO it! Climb out of the box, and watch what the Holy Spirit will do through you!

Sometimes I have found that singing calms my soul and takes my mind off of my worries. The lyrics reminds me of God’s love, His faithfulness, His peace and all that He is too me. Great Post!
