“Hear the supplications of your servant and of your people Israel when they pray toward this place. Hear from heaven, your dwelling place; and when you hear, forgive.”
(2 Chronicles 6:21)
I remember back a few years ago when the Oklahoma Tornadoes roared and reaped havoc across that region, and the helplessness as civic leaders and emergency personnel worked unselfishly to do all they were able to comfort their communities.
Maybe like you, Patty and I were praying fervently asking God for His mercy that in the very midst of all the loss and devastation , pleading with God to take authority over that storm.
I was reminded of the Scripture in Mark 4:39-41 where the apostles were in the boat with Jesus onboard and a great storm developed. As they in futility fought against the storm for their lives, doing everything they could, they awoke Jesus for help.
“He got up, rebuked the wind and said to the waves, “Quiet! Be still!” Then the wind died down and it was completely calm.
He said to His disciples, “Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith?”
They were terrified and asked each other, “Who is this? Even the wind and the waves obey Him!”
In the midst of the devastating sound and rage of the tornadoes, God heard their prayers, and delivered them from the destruction around them.
What caught my attention was the response of those inside this building to all the terror surrounding them, despite the local government’s laws forbidding prayer, they cried out to God, unashamed and humbly and God heard their prayers and saved them.
Ever since that, there are many more laws against prayer in schools, and yet despite the threats, no one man or woman can ever prevent one to pray to the Almighty God in a time of need. If it’s from the heart that thoughts proceed out of the mouth, oh how powerful our lives can be praying silently in our hearts for the destruction going on around us today.
Are you finding yourself overwhelmed with all the storms going on in and around your own lives? Pray. Jesus is the “same yesterday, today, and forever.” He is all we need.
Help us Lord to become bold in praying for something, someone about anything, anywhere that people would experience Your love in our lives as we listen to the worries and struggles of people in our “circle of friends” and family that Your Name would be seen as the “Go To” In time of need, regardless of what the “Prevailing Winds” indicate.
